InduSoft and most other automation companies are back to work today.Austin, Texas - January 22, 2007 - Had trouble contacting your favorite automation vendor this week? That’s because Austin, Texas, otherwise known as the Silicon Hills and home to several major automation vendors, was hit by a winter storm on Monday, January 15, which essentially shut down the entire city and its automation industry for three days. According to the local newspaper, the Austin American Statesman, 30,000 customers were without power during the series of storms, which lasted more than two days, and included freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Recently opened toll roads (SH45 and MoPac) and all overpasses were completely shut down by police officers.
“The freezing conditions sent the city into a day of collective hibernation, and most people appeared to heed officials' repeated warnings to stay off the roads and remain indoors,” says the Austin American Statesman.Marcia Gadbois, VP of Business Development and General Manager of the InduSoft Austin Office, issued a notice asking employees not to take an unnecessary risk traveling to and from the office. North American Technical Support, which is based in Austin, was handled by forwarding most calls to technicians using cell phones. The office opened for minimal hours with skeleton support present on Monday and Wednesday. On Tuesday, the office was closed.
By Thursday, the office resumed normal operations.
