McObject signs distributor in South Korea

Dahan Tech will immediately begin marketing, sales and support of McObject’s software.

January 14, 2009 - Dahan Tech, a software firm in South Korea specializing in embedded systems and electronic design automation (EDA) technology, has become the newest distributor for the eXtremeDB real-time embedded database and Perst open source, object-oriented embedded database from McObject, the two companies announced. Dahan Tech will immediately begin marketing, sales and support of McObject’s software. The new partnership is especially promising because Dahan Tech’s and McObject’s target markets significantly overlap. McObject’s database systems are designed to achieve the performance and small code footprint required in consumer electronics, which is a major industry in South Korea.

And both companies provide key development solutions for military, aerospace and other safety-critical applications, according to Dahan Tech General Manager Hyunseok Min. “Systems in these fields are experiencing significant growth in the size and complexity of stored data. Developers are seeking database technology that provides greater speed, reliability and development ease compared to ‘homegrown’ solutions, along with minimal memory and CPU demands,” Min said. “eXtremeDB offers a superb track record of meeting these needs.

For military and aerospace systems, the eXtremeDB High Availability edition offers proven fault tolerance. eXtremeDB’s developer tools – particularly its unique type-safe API, which prevents the most common errors from making it into run-time code – are impressive to organizations that need an extra margin of safety in their applications,” Min said. Dahan Tech is also a major Korea reseller of IBM Rational’s (formerly Telelogic’s) Rhapsody in C (UML)-based model-driven development (MDD) environment. McObject provides an eXtremeDB plug-in for Rhapsody in C that enables faster time-to-market of high quality embedded software applications that require embedded data management.

“We have seen significant market interest in McObject’s eXtremeDB/Rhapsody integration, from IBM Rational customers who see the value in a single tool set that enables them to visually model their application or system, access eXtremeDB’s application programming interfaces and generate code that interacts with the database from within Rhapsody,” Min said. Dahan Tech customers include KAI (Korea Aerospace Industry), Samsung Thales, and Korea’s ADD (Agency of Defense Department). The company also serves developers in Korea’s growing consumer electronics industry. To meet customers’ data management needs, Dahan Tech will provide related consulting, training and integration services in addition to the eXtremeDB technology.

“As McObject expands its Asia Pacific operation, South Korea represents a key embedded technology market. Through the growth of its business, Dahan Tech has demonstrated that it understands the companies in this field, their technical challenges and their needs in a software solution provider. We are very confident that Dahan Tech and McObject will successfully build market share in Korea together,” said Chris Mureen, McObject’s chief operating officer.
