APCO INTERNATIONAL ANNUAL CONFERENCE & EXPOSITION, DENVER (August 2005) – Microwave Data Systems (MDS), a world leader in industrial, wireless, networking solutions with applications in the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA)/telemetry, public safety, telecommunications, and online transactional markets, today introduced high-speed, scalable solutions in the 5.8 GHz and 5.3 GHz license-free band. The MDS FIVE Series radios are spectrum and data-rate scalable enabling organizations to trade system gain with spectral efficiency and channel availability for optimal network connectivity.

The MDS FIVE.8™ radio delivers aggregate rates up to 50 Mbps within the 5.7 – 5.8 GHz ISM band for distances up to 20 miles.

The MDS FIVE.3™ supports the 5.25 – 5.35 GHz UNII band. A common platform supports plug-in 100 Mbps Ethernet.

The radios are most commonly used for backhaul, Internet Protocol (IP) network extension, and to connect buildings and campuses. They are also used by utilities for high-speed point-to-point connectivity in monitoring, control, and data network aggregation. An MDS FIVE Series solution provides a rapid return on investment by replacing leased lines and supports consecutive point architecture configurations. It provides self-healing redundancy, making it more reliable than traditional point-to-point networks, and it automatically adjusts transmit power in response to RF interference. This simplifies deployment, network management, and enables dense deployment configurations.
