Metso will deliver a turbine control system for a Lang steam turbine at the Martinlaakso power plant in Vantaa, Finland.

February 23, 2011 - Metso has agreed with Vantaan Energia to deliver a turbine control system to Lang steam turbine of the Martinlaakso power plant in Vantaa, Finland. The new control system will be operational in September 2011. The new turbine controller will replace the old control system in a Lang turbine. The delivery also covers changes to the turbine hydraulics as well as vibration protection. An option for Metso’s condition monitoring application is included in the agreement.

The turbine controller will be integrated with the existing Metso DNA automation system, which improves plant cost efficiency and makes its maintenance easier. Vantaan Energia and Metso have cooperated since the 1980s. All the three Martinlaakso power plant blocks have been automated with Metso’s technology. ”Our experience with the turbine controller at the Martinlaakso block 1 and the automation renewals at the power boiler plant 2 create a solid ground for continuing cooperation. Our decision was also influenced by the new turbine protection and condition monitoring as well as the competitive price level,” says Maintenance Engineer Timo Linna of Vantaan Energia.

Vantaan Energia Oy is one of Finland’s largest urban energy companies. It is owned by the cities of Vantaa (60%) and Helsinki (40%). The Martinlaakso power plant produces about two-thirds of Vantaa Energia’s electricity output and most of its district heat. The total electrical capacity of the plant is about 195 MW and thermal capacity is 330 MW. Metso is a global supplier of sustainable technology and services for mining, construction, power generation, automation, recycling and the pulp and paper industries.

We have about 28,500 employees in more than 50 countries.
