May 23, 2010 - Mountz announces EZ-TorQ II torque tester, a cost effective calibration tester used to verify and calibrate hand and power tools. EZ-TorQ II is a simple to use torque tester that features a built-in transducer and graphics display. The torque tester is ideal for all small hand torque and non-impacting torque power tools. The small size and portability of the EZ-TorQ II makes it ideal for checking torque tools on the production floor or calibrating in a lab. The concept of torque validation is a central theme in every successful quality assurance program.

As a torque controlling, monitoring and documentation solution, the EZ-TorQ II enables operators and engineers to ensure product quality, safety and reliability promptly on the production floor. The EZ-TorQ II can calibrate hand torque screwdrivers and wrenches as well as power tools to avoid over tightening problems such as stripped fasteners and parts, under or over torque tightening problems, which can increase liability and risk of recall. In the manufacturing and assembly world, tightening, controlling, or measuring torque fasteners is imperative for production efficiency. An inadequately torqued fastener can vibrate or work loose; conversely, if the tension is too high, the fastener can snap or strip its threads.

Faced with these problems, manufacturers are realizing that precise torque control can spell the difference between a safe, reliable, and economical product and complete disaster.

Establish a Calibration Program

Effective torque management programs help to fine-tune results in a production environment. Tools should be calibrated and checked on an interval program governed by an effective Quality Management System. Process improvement is possible by periodically verifying a tools performance between intervals to determine whether torque tools are operating at their proper settings. Many tools don't have a locking device, and users may easily change their torque settings. Tools can be dropped or damaged between established intervals, which could effect their calibration.

Verification testing is an important strategy to ensure tools are within the desired specification. A regularly scheduled calibration interval program enables quality control personnel to correct divergences from a desired setting, whether it's because of normal slippage over time or because of adjustments or damage to the tool. Begin by setting a calibration interval initially based on severity of the application and the tool manufacturer's recommendations. If the applied torque values are out of range, cut the calibration interval in half and then verify the tools at a greater frequency.

Use Torque Analyzers

Effective use of a torque analyzer is a fast and reliable method of calibrating torque tools to their proper settings or verifying the setting is still valid. The EZ-TorQ II can be used for quick tests on the line or in the lab to determine whether torque tools are holding a given setting. Using a quality torque analyzer has become increasingly important for many companies to ensure that proper torque is being applied. Testing torque is a science and not something that can be left to chance.
