Temposonics Users Upgrade To Next Generation Technology
CARY, N.C. (July 9, 2004) — Providing a cost-effective upgrade to its Temposonics® line of magnetostrictive position sensors, MTS Sensors announces that its new G-Series is backward compatible with existing L-Series and Tempo II Series sensors. This enhanced line offers new features that will directly benefit existing customers in the wood, metals, plastics & rubber production industries, as well as the structural test and motion simulation market. Enhanced performance characteristics include programming & diagnostic features, increased shock & vibration resistance, reduced EMI interference and improved immunity to harsh environmental conditions.
“Magnetostrictive sensors have a long history of success in these production and test industries,” said Temposonics Product Manager, David Edeal. “In addition to improved performance and enhanced functionality, the G-Series provides a ‘form-fit function’ replacement for current customers using legacy MTS sensors. “Our evaluations and experience indicate that customers can easily perform replacement installations of the upgraded G-Series, while continuing to rely on MTS sensors in closed-loop servo applications.” Backward compatible installation of the G-Series is simplified because of key similarities to previous MTS sensor lines. The G-Series operates on standard 24 VDC or optional 9-23 VDC input power supplies and offers an electronics housing installation envelope that easily fits into the Tempo II sensor. Voltage and current outputs are fully adjustable within ±10 VDC and 0 to 20 mA (forward and reverse acting). All outputs are available standard for stroke lengths up to 300² to accommodate previous sensor lines.
In addition, several connector options are available to meet current termination methods including inline connections, adapter cables and field connector kits. Further improving installation and set-up, the G-Series features external programmability so that there is no need to access the internal sensor electronics. LED and remote diagnostics provide sensor readings for settings, faults & output data and assist in troubleshooting and maintenance.
