Oct. 26, 2020 - As part of a 2020 Strategic Initiative , the National Electrical Manufacturers Association ( NEMA ) worked with consultants at ABI Research to develop a new guidance document, NEMA 5G 1 5G Best Practices Technical Guidance Report , to help NEMA Members and the public alike identify opportunities to implement 5G technology for efficient manufacturing. “5G connectivity is a key component of production, facilitating low-latency and high-bandwidth communication between machines, objects, and people,” said NEMA Industry Director Daniel Abbate. “Wireless communication, like 5G, can support new, advanced mobile applications for employees.
It can even allow robots and autonomous vehicles to collaborate on the manufacturing plant floor.” “Our goal in developing this report was to provide our Members with relevant use cases and applications that apply across all our electroindustry sectors, as well as to identify opportunities to develop new technical Standards,” Abbate added. The report details 5G capabilities for enterprise verticals (healthcare, industrial manufacturing, smart cities, transportation), implications for legacy industrial networks, energy mitigation strategies, regulations, and cybersecurity concerns.
