Opto 22 Expands Machine-to-Machine Offerings to Include Monitoring Services via SensorLogic M2M Portal
Las Vegas, NV — October 22, 2003 — Opto 22 and SensorLogic announced today that they have entered into a strategic relationship under which Opto 22 will resell the SensorLogic M2M Portal™ service as an expansion of Opto 22’s Machine-to-Machine (M2M) solutions. Using the SensorLogic M2M Portal platform, Opto 22 customers gain new wireless monitoring and control capabilities when connecting to their enterprise equipment, machines, and systems. The Opto 22-SensorLogic partnership also expands the wireless network coverage available to customers. At the forefront of providing wireless M2M solutions, Opto 22 has decades of experience developing hardware for connecting new and existing line-of-business equipment to enterprise and departmental software.
Successful customer applications include remote equipment and facilities monitoring and management, supply chain optimization, energy management, regulatory compliance, discrete manufacturing, and process control. The company also provides its hardware in the form of pre-packaged systems that have been tested and proven worldwide in a number of diverse industries and applications.
These include systems utilizing M2M communications components like the Nokia® 31 GSM Connectivity Terminal™.With its SensorLogic relationship, Opto 22 will provide a complete M2M offering that includes sensor interfaces to virtually any enterprise asset, wireless communication hardware, competitive data rate plans, data management and alarming, and 24-hour access through an Opto 22–branded version of the SensorLogic M2M Web Portal.
Initially, the two companies will focus on low-cost hardware systems for simple remote monitoring and control using the Nokia 31, but they will also develop offerings that incorporate wireless technology from other industry leaders. With the addition of monitoring services, Opto 22 is now providing a fully functional, comprehensive service offering that addresses a broader range of remote M2M applications for a lower capital investment. In particular, Opto 22’s integrated offering provides a cost-effective platform for pilot applications, delivering quicker return-on-investment (ROI) analysis of the benefits for M2M technology adopters.
As a result, Opto 22 is making further progress in simplifying M2M application development and in reducing the lead-time, cost, and technical risk in developing these applications.Opto 22 will also use its new relationship with SensorLogic to broaden its M2M solutions more generally. “With this new partnership, Opto 22 is leveraging the powerful wireless communication capabilities of its simple, flexible sensor hardware products and SensorLogic’s functional M2M Portal for quick and easy monitoring and management of remote equipment,” states Bob Sheffres, vice president of Sales and Marketing at Opto 22. “This offering will also extend to equipment connected over standard wired Ethernet networks.”
“Opto 22 has the most complete line of sensor connectivity products for the M2M community,” says Jeff Smith, CEO of SensorLogic. “They have been a leader in developing innovative M2M solutions for industrial automation and other applications, including wireless monitoring. We are proud to work with Opto 22 to expand the scope of the solutions that they are bringing to their customers.”About Opto 22Opto 22 manufactures and develops hardware and software products for applications in industrial automation, remote monitoring, and enterprise data acquisition.

SensorLogic’s Web-based platform provides the server applications and wireless interface systems required for telemetry application developers to build wireless M2M solutions. For the first time, SensorLogic’s M2M Portal allows telemetry application developers to purchase many of the components of a telemetry system that they previously needed to develop themselves, significantly reducing the time and cost to develop a wireless M2M solution and bring it to market.
