The system will enable Alliant Energy to reduce system losses, manage reactive power supply and provide the future ability to implement conservation voltage reduction.

June 6, 2011 - Open Systems International (OSI) has been awarded a contract by Alliant Energy of Madison, Wisconsin, for an advanced, centralized Volt/VAR Control (VVC) system.

Based on OSI’s monarch (Multi-platform Open Network ARCHitecture) and OSI Spectra Distribution Management System (DMS) platforms, this multi-phased new VVC system project will enable Alliant Energy to reduce system losses, manage reactive power supply and provide the future ability to implement conservation voltage reduction. The project will initially span 333 distribution feeders.

This system will feature the advanced functionality of OSI’s next-generation Graphical User Interface (GUI); Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Interface; Distribution Power Flow; and Conservation Voltage Reduction products, with a monarch interface to Alliant Energy’s AMI system. This system offers superb performance and NERC CIP compliance.

Alliant Energy, headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, is a Fortune 1000 company. The energy-services provider has subsidiaries serving approximately 1 million electric and over 412,000 natural gas customers in Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota.
