OSIsoft PI Server adds Windows Integrated Security

05 April, 2009
PI Server has Windows Integrated Security (WIS) that delivers more flexible access control and secure authentication.

April 5, 2009 - The latest OSIsoft PI Server features Windows Integrated Security (WIS) for PI, a security model that delivers more flexible access control and secure authentication. PI Server leverages existing Windows features for account administration and permits single sign-on, so that no separate PI Server login is required. WIS for PI integrates Windows authentication and authorization into the PI system architecture, and supports both Active Directory and Windows Local Users/Groups.Authentication is performed using Microsoft Security Support Provider Interface (SSPI), while authorization is handled by PI Secure Objects that support compliance with data protection standards. PI users and groups can be defined with no redundant configuration steps.

The existing PI System security model is still supported, and an upgrade involves no loss of configuration and no migration steps.
