The ETG, the world’s largest industrial Ethernet group, continues rapid membership growth NUREMBERG, Germany August 1, 2006 – Well known elevator company, OTIS, has been awarded the distinction of becoming member number 300 of the EtherCAT Technology Group (ETG). OTIS is the world’s largest company involved in the manufacture, installation and service of elevators, escalators and moving walkways. OTIS Elevator Korea officially joined in the ETG in April and was honored at an EtherCAT training class in Seoul. The ETG is an international user and vendor organization in which key user companies from various industries and leading automation suppliers join forces to support, promote and advance EtherCAT industrial Ethernet technology.

The EtherCAT implementation seminar in Korea was met with strong demand: Just one day after the 3 day class was announced, it was fully booked. A total of 33 attendees from 15 companies represented the major Korean industries. Semiconductor and electronic manufacturing firms attended as well as developers from heavy industry. EtherCAT Implementation Workshops take place across Europe, North America and Asia. About half of the 342 member companies from 26 countries – among those numerous end users – have purchased EtherCAT implementation kits.

The EtherCAT Technology Group is a forum in which key user companies from various industries and leading automation suppliers join forces to support, promote and advance EtherCAT technology. EtherCAT sets new standards for real-time, deterministic Ethernet fieldbus performance because it can process 1000 distributed I/O in 30 µs or 100 axes in 100 µs using twisted pair or fiber optic cable. Regarding topology, EtherCAT gives users the choice: it supports a simple low cost line structure, a tree structure, daisy chaining or drop lines.
