Caracas, June 13, 2005 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won a $360,000 consulting agreement with PDVSA to improve reliability of electrical motors and pumps in the Complejo Refinador Paraguaná (CRP) in Venezuela. ABB Performance Services consultants will perform a broad evaluation of the current practices adopted by PDVSA in the selection, operation and maintenance of motors and pumps at the site. Together with the PDVSA team the improvement opportunities will be identified and a reliability program will be developed to boost equipment effectiveness and optimize maintenance costs in a sustainable way. Both PDVSA and ABB are very confident about the success of the project.

It has been planned as a fully integrated job, joining the knowledge of PDVSA on their equipment with the experience of ABB in the implementation of reliability improvement programs to produce significant bottom line benefits for major customers around the world. PDVSA is one of the biggest oil companies in the world with integrated activities in the oil, gas, refining and petrochemical segments. CRP is considered the biggest refining complex in the world with a processing capacity of 940,000 barrels a day, including two integrated refineries (Cardon and Amuay). CRP is targeting business excellence and has identified reliability improvement of pumps and motors as a key element in its strategy.

ABB ( www.abb.com ) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 102,000 people.
