December 3, 2012 - PI (PROFIBUS & PROFINET International) views the announcement by Emerson Process Management that it is expanding its AMS Suite preventive maintenance software to include connectivity to PROFIBUS PA devices as further evidence of the unabated growth of PROFIBUS solutions in process automation and the increasing dissemination of PROFIBUS into all sectors of process automation. Support for PROFIBUS DP has been a feature of popular products of Emerson Process Management for many years. The integration of PROFIBUS PA, combined with the widely-used DeltaV™ automation system, results in a complete PROFIBUS solution that provides all the benefits of an integrated and uniform communication system.
PROFIBUS PA was added as part of a project to expand the AMS Suite to include additional assets for achieving an integrated maintenance solution. “We are in favor of openness and the support of industry standards,” said Ernst Jäger, Marketing Manager at Emerson Process Management. “That is why we are continually expanding our range of PROFIBUS product and services. Expanded support of assets allows users to select the devices best suited for their application without any limitations with respect to manufacturer or communication protocol.” With this step, Emerson Process Management is continuing its actions of the past few years to open up its products to PI technologies.
This is manifested not only in the implementation of PROFIBUS in products but also in active participation in PI Advisory Board and working groups of PI. PI expressly welcomes this step, not least because it will significantly accelerate the use of PROFIBUS in the market.
