March 19, 2013 - Schneider Electric introduces LXM 62 DC130A servo drive with 130A peak current for main drives and other situations requiring high-performance servo motors. The servo drive enhances the range of performance of LXM 62 multiaxis servo drives for the PacDrive automation system by adding a version for up to 50A continuous current. It can easily generate a peak output of up to 130A for brief periods. This makes it suitable for the most high-performance servo motors of the PacDrive SH3 series, and also compatible with torque motors or asynchronous motors at corresponding performance levels.

The LXM 62 DC130A now allows the use of PacDrive’s servo-based, integrated solutions to create main drives for many machines used in packaging machinery, paper processing equipment, and other servo technology applications. Used in combination with asynchronous motors, these drives can be incorporated into the PacDrive 3 system’s diagnostic mechanisms via integrated sercos III communication. Such uses are also a way to implement uniform drive technology within a machine. The LXM DC130A servo drive fits seamlessly into the multiaxis design of the LXM 62, with serial configuration and front-side quick-connect slides. One or more shared power supplies drive all of the LXM 62 servo drives and ILM 62 servo modules within a PacDrive 3 servo solution.

In this way, the servo drive also contributes to the significant reduction of space requirements within the control cabinet, up to 50% compared with traditional technology. The drive’s power density is among the highest ever achieved in this class. The quick-connect slide design allows the drive to be integrated into the DC bus without additional installation effort. This is a particularly useful option for creating an energy-efficient drive solution in high-performance drives and reusing otherwise wasted braking force, possibly in conjunction with a sufficiently large buffer. Like all core components of the PacDrive 3 system, the LXM DC130A communicates via sercos III, thus allowing it to be incorporated into integrated safety automation designs.

The drive’s safety functionalities, such as the dual-channel design of the Inverter Enable input, fulfill requirements up to SIL 3 (according to IEC 61508:1998) or PL e (EN/ISO 13849:2006).
