SIXNET Announces IP Security and SNMP Functions Available for Linux IPm Controllers and RTUs

New IP Security Protection and SNMP "add-on" features are available for use with SIXNET's VersaTRAK IPm Remote Terminal Unit (RTU), SixTRAK IPm Open DCS Controller, SixTRAK I/O Controller (OEM Linux model), and the new EtherTRAK Dual Ethernet Gateway. The IP Security add-on feature is a firewall application which allows users to protect their controller/RTU from unauthorized access.

A simple Security Rules Wizard in SIXNET's I/O Tool Kit is used to define rules that restrict access (incoming or outgoing) based upon IP address, IP ports, or any other capability of the IPtables Linux application which comes installed on IPm units as part of their standard firmware. The SNMP add-on provides users with the ability to obtain valuable network management information from the SNMP agent (Simple Network Management Protocol) in their IPm controllers or RTUs. A Rules Wizard in the I/O Tool Kit configures the SNMP agent that has been integrated into the standard IPm firmware.Puchase of a license is required to use either of these new add-on features with IPm units.

Licenses may be obtained directly through SIXNET's Web Store at www.sixnetio.com. Once the license for the add-on has been purchased, users simply "unlock" the new capability using their I/O Tool Kit so they can make immediate use of the enhanced functionality.

The latest version of SIXNET's I/O Tool Kit (v2.2) and IPm Firmware (v1.5+) are required, and are available at no charge through SIXNET's web site (where they can either be downloaded directly or requested on a free CD).
