July 22, 2008. Software Toolbox released Version 2.6 of its OmniServer Universal OPC and I/O Server software product. Version 2.6 adds support for the latest Windows operating systems, including running as a service under Windows Vista and Server 2008, along with the ability to generate alarm notifications via email/SMS based on user-defined criteria.
Also added were numerous features that expand the range of protocols that can be implemented with OmniServer and reduce engineering, commissioning, and troubleshooting time. Existing OmniServer users may upgrade to Version 2.6 without any change to their configurations for a nominal upgrade fee that also includes a maintenance & support program that delivers free upgrades for a year. OmniServer is an OPC and I/O Server that empowers users, integrators, and OEMs to build their own driver to talk to various serial or Ethernet devices that do not already have drivers written, without writing any code or being a programmer. OmniServer saves users thousands of dollars when compared to writing custom drivers.
Examples include bar code readers, weigh scales, bar code printers, and more. Several sample protocols are included in the package. No programming is required to use OmniServer. Configuration is all done through a point-and-click user interface. OmniServer has been in continuous use in industry since 1995 with thousands of installations around the world.
“Users, integrators, and OEMs have depended on OmniServer for many years for connectivity to many unique devices and this latest upgrade enables them to continue using OmniServer on the latest Windows platforms. The new Email/SMS notification feature lets them get even more value from data that they are already reading with OmniServer. Engineering and commissioning time and costs will be further reduced in these tight times with the other new features in Version 2.6.
We encourage all OmniServer users to upgrade to Version 2.6 at their next upgrade cycle,“ said Colin Winchester, VP Sales & Operations, Software Toolbox Inc.
