ISA 2012 Automation Week Track: Safety/Environmental Thursday, 27 September, 3:15-4:45 pm, Room 205B Nevena Iordanova Plants constantly monitor and collect a myriad of data related to daily processes and utilities. While the most important data is collected to provide daily, weekly, and monthly reports for management, there is valuable information, such as efficiency deviations, that is missed and not fully evaluated. During everyday operations, an engineer does not have the time or resources to analyze this valuable information thoroughly. The Energy Optimization/Management session at ISA Automation Week describes Armstrong’s resource/tool called the Steam System Dashboard that easily allows engineers to analyze and monitor data already collected by the plant.
Throughout the presentation, attendees will also gain an understanding of why monitoring and analyzing steam systems with the help of the Steam System Dashboard leads to a decrease in plant energy consumption, improved equipment safety, streamlined facility operations, and overall system efficiency that complies with government regulations. The Steam System Dashboard analyzes the steam system efficiency as a whole, energy and operational, based on data already available. The Steam System Dashboard analyzes each part of the steam system (generation, distribution, users, and condensate return) with built-in system intelligence to predict how the change in one area would affect the rest.
With nearly half of the energy used by industries going into steam production, steam is widely used as an energy source, making steam valuable to analyze. By setting benchmarks and key performance indicators, the Dashboard can provide a guideline for areas of energy or operational improvement, helping sustain already achieved results from optimizations and good practices, as well as warning for undesired events before they occur.
