“Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Data Acquisition” explains the overall concept of data acquisition and considerations for analog input systems.

Walpole, MA (April 17, 2008) — United Electronic Industries released Part One in a three-part series of white papers called “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Data Acquisition.” While the primary focus of this first white paper in the series is analog inputs, the paper explains the overall concept of data acquisition (or DAQ) in general, and takes the time to demystify the use of the term as an industry buzzword, before delving into the more technical aspects of, and considerations for, analog input systems. The paper covers popular system types, A/D conversion, input channel configuration, simultaneous sampling, accuracy specifications, sample rate, input range, etc. The paper goes on to cover temperature measurements as well as strain (& stress) measurements in detail.
