Canton, MA (March 22, 2007) — United Electronic Industries (UEI) announces the release of the UEIModbus Cube. The UEIModbus is a compact, rugged, Ethernet based data acquisition and control interface that communicates with a host computer or PLC over Modbus TCP. The UEIModbus Cube functions as a Modbus slave easily accessed by any software client acting as a Modbus master. Most popular HMI software supports the Modbus protocol.

The UEIModbus 600 cube is 4” x 4” x 5.8” and supports up to 150 analog inputs or 288 digital I/O while the UEIModbus 300 is 4” x 4” x 4” and offers 75 analog or 144 digital I/O channels. Offering over 60 million different configurations of analog input/output, digital I/O, counter/timer and quadrature encoder system, there’s sure to be one that’s a perfect fit for almost any application. The UEIModbus is ideally suited for a wide variety of industrial monitoring and control applications. With an operating temperature range from -40° to +85° C, and capable of withstanding 50 g of shock and 5g of steady vibration, the UEIModbus is rugged enough to handle the most demanding environments.

“The UEIModbus sets a new standard in high density, rugged Modbus I/O solutions,” according to UEI President Shaun Miller. “One of the historic weaknesses of Modbus systems is high density analog I/O. The UEIModbus will be extremely popular both as a complete I/O system as well as an adjunct to many PLC based applications.”

About Modbus

The Modbus messaging protocol was developed by Modicon in 1979 and is used to establish master-slave/client-server communication between intelligent devices. It is a de facto standard, truly open and the most widely used network protocol in the industrial manufacturing environment. Modbus devices communicate using a master-slave configuration. Only one device (the master) can initiate transactions (called queries). The other devices (slaves) respond by supplying the requested data to the master, or by taking the action requested in the query.
