September 10, 2013 – It is already foreseeable today that the lack of young people will be one of the high priority issues in the near future for the mechanical engineering sector. Not enough young people are interested in technology beyond the functionality of their smartphones, and too few know what they are missing by deciding against a career in mechanical engineering. Even those who have decided for technical education or studies in this field, often just think about producers of fancy end products, like cars, as the ideal employer. In general, a promising career opportunity at a mid-sized mechanical engineering company does not immediately occur to most young people.
Therefore, there is a need, particularly for Integrated Assembly Solutions (IAS), to explain what the sector is actually all about. As part of the efforts towards this goal, the sector has recently decided to change its name from Assembly and Handling Technology to Integrated Assembly Solutions. The old name Assembly and Handling Technology was not up to date anymore and was far too unspecific, without conveying the international aspects and the high technology incorporated in this sector. Our brand-new clip refers directly to young people. Being partly animated and partly real film, it aims to wet young people’s appetite for IAS and explains all about our sector.
The more young people see this film the higher the impact will be. This is why social media is one important communication tool. However, the traditional media should also not be missed, i.e. professional journals or your websites.
