Xycom Automation launches low-power industrial PCs
The 4700 Series has an Intel M mobile processor that requires about half the wattage of most industrial PCs. Because the reduced power usage also results in less heat output, 4700 Series PCs are ideal for factory automation applications requiring NEMA sealed enclosures. The 4700 Series ships standard with a 1.3GHz Intel Celeron M processor (512K cache, 400MHz bus); 512MB DRAM, CD-ROM and WindowsXP.

SALINE, Mich. – January 2, 2007 – Xycom Automation announces the launch of its next generation of heavy-duty industrial PCs: the 4700 Series. The 4700 Series features the same high-performance Intel M mobile processors used in many popular commercial laptop computers. Despite this boost in processing power over that of most industrial PCs, 4700 Series computers use only about half the wattage. Because the markedly reduced power usage of the M processor also results in less heat output, 4700 Series PCs are ideal for most factory automation applications requiring NEMA sealed enclosures.

Lower heat output makes controlling the enclosure’s internal operational temperature much easier and often eliminates the need for expensive cooling devices. The 4700 Series ships standard with a 1.3GHz Intel Celeron M processor (512K cache, 400MHz bus); 512MB DRAM, CD-ROM and WindowsXP. Upgrades are available, and Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000 (multi-language) may be preloaded and configured to make setup a breeze. Many enhancements have been made to the 4700 Series that are not available in its popular 3700 Series predecessor.

Up to two easily removable, cable-free serial ATA hard drives may be added (RAID-1 option is also available). Other enhancements include: an additional 10/100/1000 base-T Ethernet port, four USB 2.0-compliant ports, a Type I/II CompactFlashsocket, an extra RS-232/422/485 selectable serial port, and four PCI expansion slots. The 4700 Series carries the European CE mark, as well as UL and cUL agency approvals. Approved for Class I & Class II, Division 2 Hazardous Locations, 4700 Series PCs can operate in 0oC to 50oC environments without additional cooling.

Model 4715 units also include bright 15.0” XGA TFT LCD displays that boast resolution of up to 1024 x 768 due to the on-board 4X AGP graphics controller with 4MB system RAM. In addition, 4715 units automatically share up to 32 MB system RAM to allow full 32-bit color depth and fast 3D rendering. Displays are offered with a choice of analog resistive touch screen, keypad with integrated mouse, or all three. For applications not requiring an integrated display, model 1547 is also available.

Xycom’s 4700 Series is the latest result of more than 20 years of developing and supplying industrial PC products for the factory automation market, and it is continued evidence of Xycom’s status as the market leader in NEMA mounted industrial PCs. Xycom Automation is a leading global supplier of innovative industrial automation solutions.
