YWire Technologies releases Five Series Lighting Control

19 May, 2010
Five Series embeds Broadband over Powerline (BPL) technology and a mini-web server into a light switch to create a building-wide network of intelligent switches capable of being remotely controlled.

May 19, 2010 - YWire Technologies announced Five Series Lighting Control System. This system reduces energy consumption in buildings and installation labor by up to 80%. For building owners considering an upgrade to their lighting system, YWire’s offering will cut the capital invesent necessary for retrofits in half, while delivering state-of-the-art energy management technology.

The arrival of the Five Series comes at a time when only 2 percent of the 4.4 million commercial buildings in the United States are equipped with modernized lighting control systems, according to the U.S. Deparent of Energy. That leaves the nation with about 33 billion square feet of commercial real estate lit when closed, an estimated $6 Billion in waste.

YWire’s Five Series embeds Broadband over Powerline (BPL) technology and a mini-web server into a light switch to create a building-wide network of intelligent switches capable of being remotely controlled. Dedicated lighting control networks are an energy saving strategy that has, to-date, been uneconomical for the vast majority of properties. BPL technology, a major player in utility smart meters, enables a high speed data network to be built directly on a building's existing electrical infrastructure. YWire’s technology also extends the IP environment to each light switch, a major advancement in Smart Grid technology.
