Wonderware Increases Scalability of FactorySuite A2 Development Suite and Industrial Application Server to Address Smaller Applications

Underlying ArchestrA Technology Now Scales from 100K I/O to 250 I/O

LAKE FOREST, Calif., July 20, 2004 - Wonderware, a business unit of Invensys Systems Inc., has introduced several new scaled-down I/O options for its cost-effective FactorySuite A2 development suite and version 1.5 of its Industrial Application Server software. The FactorySuite A2 development edition license is now available in small (250 I/O), medium (2,500 I/O), large (4,500 I/O) and extra-large (up to 100,000 I/O) development versions.

The core application platform for Wonderware FactorySuite A2 application solutions is the Industrial Application Server. It also can now be purchased in sizes ranging from 250 I/O to 100K I/O per solution." The Industrial Application Server was first introduced January 2003 and has seen rapid adoption by many of Wonderware's current and new customers," said Steve Garbrecht, product marketing manager for the Wonderware Industrial Application Server. "As our customers realize the extensive benefits that the Industrial Application Server's underlying ArchestrA technology offers, we have received many requests for scalable licensing to fit the latest ArchestrA technology into any application.

Major automotive, electronics, food and beverage, metals, telecommunications, water treatment, utilities, oil and gas plants and equipment OEMs have incorporated FactorySuite A2 products into their operations today and they are seeing the dramatic time and cost savings benefits that the ArchestrA architecture provides." The FactorySuite A2 development suite is a highly productive application development and deployment environment for supervisory/SCADA, production management and plant intelligence applications. It includes a single, integrated development environment for engineering and maintaining complete application solutions that use the Industrial Application Server, InTouch HMI software, IndustrialSQL Server plant historian and all available Wonderware communication servers.

Engineering and system maintenance savings come from the object-oriented capabilities of the Industrial Application Server, with its ability to make and distribute global configuration changes online quickly and without affecting manufacturing operations. As the core distributed application platform for Wonderware FactorySuite A2 manufacturing solutions, the Industrial Application Server provides the basis for improved lifecycle savings for virtually any supervisory/SCADA, plant intelligence or production management solution." This new, more scalable licensing model allows OEMs and small system developers to take advantage of the same engineering productivity enjoyed by users of larger automation and information systems," Garbrecht said.

"It also provides the ability for users to start with a small, basic application and easily expand additional functionality and capacity as needs increase." Wonderware popularized the integrated manufacturing software suite concept in the 1990s and has continued to expand functionality, along with offering capabilities to specifically address lifecycle cost issues associated with automation and information systems. Built on Invensys' innovative ArchestrA software architecture, Wonderware's FactorySuite A² products enable quick and easy conversion of virtually any disparate plant data source into vital information -- also known as plant intelligence.
