Cross Direction Control Optimization Services combine diagnosis, implementation and sustaining services to improve and maintain profile performance of the paper sheet.

April 2, 2009 - ABB released Cross Direction Control Optimization Services for machine transition and grade dependent performance of the profile property of the paper sheet. This service improves paper sheet quality and marketability. The services combine diagnosis, implementation and sustaining services to improve and maintain profile performance. Components of the services can be delivered separately or combined, based on site capabilities and requirements. “This service includes two new diagnostic Fingerprints: CD Grade Performance Fingerprint and CD Transition Fingerprint,” stated Robert Horton, US Optimization Service Business Development Manager.

“With this service, our specialized data analysis and tools take CD control to enhanced levels.” The diagnostic phase, “Fingerprint”, utilizes a structured engineered approach, including proven methodology, and in-depth knowledge of systems and processes. It provides comprehensive testing and analysis of several process performance indicators including dimensional stability of the sheet, and evaluation of profile response stability on multiple production grades to measure performance and identify improvement potential. The testing and analysis are performed on major product grade structures and on multiple production dates to assess inter and intra stability of the profile property in the sheet.

From collected data, both a performance benchmark and an actionable improvement plan are generated, including estimated financial ROI for each recommendation. Implementation engineering services are provided to help customers achieve the benefits of identified opportunities. Once optimization goals have been met, ABB expertise is provided as a renewable service contract to sustain the financial and operational benefits gained through the optimization process. ABB is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 120,000 people.
