ABB enhances SCADAvantage software
Enhancements include HMI development using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 and improved security based on Windows Active Directory or Workgroups.

July 19, 2009 - ABB released SCADAvantage version 5.2, real-time automation software intended for the oil and gas industry. SCADAvantage is a flexible, scalable, high performance, and open architecture SCADA system capable of hosting applications that link real-time and transactional business systems. It is also a single source for operational, engineering and business information.SCADAvantage is based on open standards and has been designed for the upstream oil and gas market.

The following new features are available:

  • HMI development using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008
  • Performance and reliability improvements during system startup and failover
  • Monitored software and hardware failures can now trigger a failover
  • Security based on Windows Active Directory or Workgroups
  • Native Mercury and RealFlo protocol drivers
  • EUB Directive 17 Compliance for several RTU’s
  • Support for Lufkin and Unico POC’s
  • Microsoft Technology Updates SCADAvantage also offers various value-added oil and gas applications integrated within the system, which enables users to reduce operational costs.
  • Gas Schedule Tracking – periodically calculates the Forecast EOD (End Of Day) Contract Quantity and the Required Flow Rate to meet the Contract Quantity for each configured Contract.
  • Line-Pack – periodically calculates an estimation of the quantity (volume) of natural gas within a physical Pipeline Segment/NetworkUsers have the ability to change work practices by providing enterprise-wide access to information.

It also helps them to achieve high levels of personnel safety, protect the environment and increase production through the reduction of downtime and the implementation of optimization tools.
