ABB showcases products and services that address challenges such as rising energy costs and skills shortages in the steel industry.

May 6, 2026 — ABB is demonstrating more than 100 years of experience in metals as well as highlight its commitment to future proofing metals operations at AISTech 2026, the leading event for the steel industry held in Pittsburgh, from May 4-6. Leveraging an integrated approach, ABB will show how it helps steelmakers to deliver measurable gains in efficiency, product quality and yield, and remain competitive in a rapidly evolving industry.

ABB’s range includes motors and drives designed for demanding metals applications, services to extend equipment life, electrification solutions for efficient, low-risk operations, high-precision flatness, roll force and tension load cells, weighing systems, electromagnetic stirring and braking solutions to boost furnace efficiency, and digital platforms and services.

These capabilities are increasingly integrated to help metals producers address today’s challenges while preparing for the future – from rising energy costs and skills shortages to evolving quality requirements and sustainability targets.

“ABB’s technologies enable metals producers to improve control, reliability and transparency while building a strong foundation for continuous improvement in a rapidly changing industrial environment,” said Marko Sydanlammi, global portfolio manager, Force Measurement at ABB’s Measurement & Analytics division. “Our portfolio includes plant-wide and process-specific offerings spanning every step of the process from yard to market, and critical digital platforms such as remote assistance, condition monitoring and process intelligence.”

As digitalization accelerates, the volume of data generated in metals production is increasing rapidly. By combining measurement data with advanced analytics, manufacturers can move beyond simple monitoring and towards continuous optimization, extending asset life and reducing operational risk. This includes identifying patterns and correlations that were previously difficult to detect, predicting process behavior and potential deviations, refining operating parameters over time, and driving incremental improvements in both efficiency and quality.

Visitors can find ABB at booth 733 at AISTech.
