Västerås, Sweden, March 2, 2008 – ABB signed a contract with LKAB in November 2007, to supply a mine hoist system to its iron ore mine at Malmberget in the north of Sweden. The new mine hoist system will be used to hoist ore from the new main haulage level, M1250, located at 1,250 meter level in LKAB’s mine at Malmberget. ABB’s solution will help the mine increase its overall output and productivity. ABB’s delivery includes both mechanical and electrical equipment, such as pulley and shaft, brake system, skips, measuring pockets, System 800xA control system, motor, drive system ACS 6000 SD, installation as well as commissioning. ABB has had long term cooperation with LKAB.
