ABB will supply burner management, boiler controls, and BOP controls for two 330 MW circulating fluidized bed boilers at Cleco Power's new $1 billion Rodemacher Power Station, a 660 MW generating unit near Boyce, LA. ABB will provide System 800xA with operator stations, Harmony Bridge controllers for monitoring and control, and PLC interfaces to the turbine controls via standard OPC technology.

Wickliffe, Ohio, March 1, 2007 – ABB has been selected to supply Cleco Power's new $1 billion, 660-megawatt generating unit at the company's Rodemacher Power Station site near Boyce, LA, with burner management, boiler controls, and BOP controls for its two 330 MW circulating fluidized bed boilers. ABB is looking forward to working with Engineering and Procurement Contractor, Shaw, Stone and Webster during the execution of this project. ABB will be utilizing System 800xA with Harmony Connect Process Portal for the operator stations, and Harmony Bridge controllers with both Rack & S800 I/O for monitoring and control. ABB will also provide PLC interfaces to the turbine controls and other auxiliary equipment via standard OPC technology.

Currently, ABB's Symphony Control System is installed at several of Cleco's generating plants. The Rodemacher station currently generates 963 MW with its two existing units. Unit 1, fully owned by Cleco, is fueled by natural gas and low-sulfur fuel oil and produces 440 MW. Unit 2, jointly owned by Cleco, Louisiana Energy and Power Authority, and Lafayette Utilities System, is coal-fired and has an output of 523 MW. Circulating Fluidized-Bed Technology will allow the new Cleco 600 MW unit to use a diversified fuel mixture.

Presently under construction, the new unit is scheduled to be completed in late 2009. Cleco Power is a subsidiary of Cleco Corp. a regional energy company headquartered in Pineville, La. Cleco Power is a regulated electric utility company that serves about 267,000 customers across Louisiana.
