AllMotion Introduces Programmable Dual Axis Stepper Driver

30 March, 2006
The dual axis EZHR17EN high resolution intelligent stepper motor controller/driver with encoder feedback provides up to 2A drive current for one axis and up to 1A for the second. A daughtercard is avakilable for a second stepper or bidirectional DC driver. The EZHR17EN and daughtercard can microstep up to 1/256 and 1/16 steps, respectively.

SAN JOSE, Calif. – March 2006 – AllMotion Inc., the leading manufacturer of miniature high-performance stepper and servo drives, announces immediate availability of its award-winning* dual axis EZHR17EN Stepper Motor Controller + Driver, designed for rapid off-the-shelf implementation in miniature applications.Measuring just 1.6" x 1.6" (40mm x 40mm), AllMotion's dual axis capable EZHR17EN high resolution intelligent stepper motor controller + driver with encoder feedback provides up to 2 amps drive current for one axis and up to 1 amp for the second with optional second stepper or bidirectional DC driver daughtercard.

The EZHR17EN and daughtercard can microstep up to 1/256 and 1/16 steps, respectively. “AllMotion’s EZHR17EN’s dual axis positioning capability provides high resolution coordinated motions for applications such as an X-Y robot or a syringe and valve drive with unparalleled ease,” said AllMotion President David Goodin. “Engineered for rapid implementation as an off-the-shelf component, the EZHR17EN makes dual axis motion for miniature products low cost and easy.”The EZHR17EN gives precise positioning, acceleration and velocity capability to any stepper motor that is 3 inches or smaller (NEMA size 23 or smaller). First-time users are able to make a stepper motor move as commanded less than 30 minutes after opening the box.

The EZHR17EN is easily integrated into OEM instrumentation across a wide range of industries.

Intelligent Motion In Just 30 Minutes

AllMotion’s EZStepper technology gets your motor running in 30 minutes or less. The EZHR17EN is capable of high speed and highly complex motion – up to 20 million microsteps per second – yet follows simple and intuitive command sets compatible with devices using the Cavro DT or OEM protocol. Commands can be issued from any serial terminal program (such as HyperTerminal) or from the EZ Stepper Windows application. The EZHR17EN is capable of standalone operation with no connection to a PC. It can be programmed to execute a preset string of commands upon power up.

These strings and other programs are stored in onboard EEPROM. Commands include nested loops and execution halt pending a switch closure, which is useful in stand-alone applications. The fully intelligent stepper motor controller + driver is designed to fasten to the back of the stepper motor. A single four- wire bus equipped with two power wires and two communication wires can link up to 16 stepper motor controllers in a daisy chain.

Select Features:

  • Optional second stepper or bidirectional DC driver on daughtercard.
  • RS232, RS485 or USB based communications.
  • Fits on the back of a NEMA size 23 or smaller stepper motor.
  • Selectable step resolution from 1/8 to 1/256th step.
  • Up to 20 Million Microsteps / second.
  • Industry standard communications protocol.
  • Stand alone operation capable with no connection to a PC.
  • Single 4 wire bus can link up to 16 stepper motor controllers.
  • 2 amp chopper (PWM) driver.
  • Dual encoders, position maintain mode.
