AVEVA announces migration path from SPI/INtools

Path enables process plants to upgrade entire instrumentation and control design systems from Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI/INtools) to AVEVA's Instrumentation technology.

September 21, 2010 - AVEVA announced a migration capability for process plant businesses to upgrade entire instrumentation and control design systems from Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI/INtools) to AVEVA Instrumentation technology. The upgrade and migration service itself is provided by The EpiSES Group, an engineering organisation that offers integration solutions, consultancy and training for Plant Owners, EPCs, subcontractors and Construction & Commissioning support teams. With AVEVA Instrumentation, companies have the ability to create and manage instrument data through simple, graphical interfaces, rather than error-prone tables and forms, and to apply intelligent change management.

Rerouting wiring, for example, is no longer a multi-stage data entry process with many opportunities for error. Instead, the wiring is simply moved to its new route by ‘drag and drop.’ All associated connections, terminations and other data are managed automatically. EpiSES has already successfully delivered migration services for several companies.

One recent project involved nearly 80,000 separate items of instrumentation data migrated from SPI/Intools to AVEVA Instrumentation in just two weeks.Dave Gibson, Head of Product Strategy for Instrumentation and Electrical Systems for AVEVA said: “There is mounting economic pressure on instrumentation and control engineers to produce and repurpose their designs more rapidly than ever before, and to get it right the first time. Slow, costly data entry across multiple applications is out; integrated visual engineering is the answer. This is why we have experienced very strong demand from SPI/INtools users for an easy migration route into AVEVA Instrumentation.

EpiSES can now provide this cost-effective service directly to the industry.”Hendrik van Leeuwen, CEO of EpiSES, said: “As project complexity grows and schedules compress, visual engineering is the only sensible option for both delivering and repurposing instrumentation design reliably. AVEVA Instrumentation’s openness now allows us to offer this visual engineering capability directly to customers through a totally seamless and well proven service.”AVEVA has recently published an instrumentation whitepaper, entitled Top Ten Instrumentation Headaches, which examines the daily challenges facing instrumentation engineers and designers. It can be downloaded from AVEVA’s website.
