Banner Engineering Safety Light Curtain System Delivers Unprecedented Ease-of-Use and Safeguarding Flexibility

Minneapolis, MN–November 5, 2004–Banner Engineering Corp. has announced new features for their EZ -SCREEN™ non-contact, point-of-operation machine guarding safety light screen system, making it arguably the most feature-rich and flexible system available on the market today. Key additions include fixed blanking to accommodate materials and tooling inflow with no reduction of operator safety, a cascading option for connection up to four EZ-SCREEN pairs and multiple AC interfaces.

EZ-SCREEN pair pricing starts at the extraordinary low price of $750.00.Fixed blanking allows for stationary objects such as tooling or materials inflow to be ignored when positioned in a defined set of beams. If the objects are removed, the system goes into a lockout mode to ensure an unsafe gap in the sensing field is not created. "Fixed blanking is a powerful new feature which adds to the overall flexibility of the EZ-SCREEN system to incorporate the complexities of the manufacturing process while maintaining proper safeguarding of the operator," said Mike Carlson, Technical Manager for Banner's Safety Products.

Fixed blanking is easily programmed via onboard DIP switches, making materials or tooling changeovers fast and easy. Also significant is a flexible cascading option that allows up to four systems of varying sizes, lengths and resolutions to be wired together to form a unified control stop element with a single cable interface. Cascaded system response time is only minimally affected with the addition of each system in the cascade adding a maximum of 2 ms to the overall response time for each additional pair in the cascade. A response time can also be calculated for each individual system pair.

"E-stop buttons, safety switches and safety module output contacts can also be interfaced at the end receiver to provide even greater flexibility in the machine safeguarding solution," Carslon added.Optional AC power supplies with safety relay outputs add yet another dimension of flexibility to the EZ-SCREEN system. "Offering AC power interface solutions for the EZ-SCREEN system ensures that Banner safety light screens can truly solve the widest range of applications," Carlson also stated. The Banner EZ-SCREEN system family is intended for point-of-operation machine guarding applications and other safeguarding applications, including area guarding when mounted horizontally and long-range perimeter guarding utilizing corner mirrors.

EZ-SCREEN pairs are available in 14 mm and 30 mm resolution and 12 lengths from 150 mm to 1800 mm. EZ-SCREEN Grid and Point systems are also available offering single beam point, 2-, 3- or 4-beam grid protection. A complete range of mounting brackets, stands and mirrors are available to facilitate virtually any conceivable mounting configuration. Typical applications include small assembly equipment, pick-and-place machines, molding presses, packaging machinery, palletizers, roll formers, automated production equipment, robotic work cells, and power press applications.
