Beckhoff Introduces AX2500 Series of Multi Axis Servo Drives Now With Ethernet Interface

The AX25xx-B900 multi axis servo drives bring the speed and flexibility of Ethernet to applications with compact cabinets

MINNEAPOLIS, April 5, 2005 – Designed for applications with compact cabinets, the modular Beckhoff AX2500 series has been expanded to now include an Ethernet interface model. The AX25xx-B900 Ethernet servo drives are fully software compatible with the Beckhoff AX2000 drive series and provide maximum output in the smallest space – suitable for control cabinets as small as 300 mm in depth. In its maximum configuration, the multi-axis system can control eight axes – a master module with seven axis modules. Compared with single axis designs, wiring, commissioning and installation efforts are reduced significantly. The modular concept also reduces possible sources of error in the application.

The Beckhoff drive system is well equipped for single- and multi-axis positioning tasks with robust and dynamic requirements thanks to its efficient integration with IPC hardware and with TwinCAT automation and motion control software. The master module contains a power supply, input mains filtering for supply power and auxiliary voltage, an internal regen ballast circuit and resistor and a power output stage. Additional axis modules - up to seven - are simply plugged directly into the master module and are connected in the intermediate DC circuit via a socket strip. The 24 V DC auxiliary voltage is similarly shared through this socket strip. This provides the user with a very compact, cost-optimized servo system.

The AX2500 product line also has interfaces for Lightbus, Profibus- DP, SERCOS and CANopen allowing machinery builders to standardize on one drive and different master controllers.Beckhoff Automation provides advanced, open automation products based upon proven technologies so that customers can implement high performance control systems faster and at a lower overall cost than traditional PLC and motion control systems. Beckhoff’s “New Automation Technology” product range includes PC based control, industrial PCs, automation controllers, operator interface, I/O, servo drives and motors. With representation in 50 countries, Beckhoff is well positioned to provide global sales and service to its customers.

Sales and service are handled directly, with no intermediaries involved to provide faster response and improved communications.
