July 10, 2014 – Belden announces Actuator Sensor Box-Ruggedized (ASB-R) distribution boxes designed to minimize machine downtime. Available in more than twenty versions, these Actuator Sensor Box-Ruggedized (ASB-R) distribution boxes permit reliable connections, even in the most demanding environments. The robust and fully-encased die-cast zinc housing can withstand shavings, welding sparks, aggressive coolants, lubricants, as well as shock and vibration. Because the ASB-R distribution boxes can be directly mounted on machinery, no sub-distribution through terminal blocks or screw-in cable fasteners is necessary, which lowers costs. Standardized M12 connection technology simplifies the installation process, while minimizing the effort required for maintenance and storage.

It also ensures that extensions to plants and equipment, or retrofitting of machinery, can be carried out quickly and easily. With long operational lifetimes, these robust ASB-R distribution boxes bundle signals from actuators and sensors and transmit them to control systems via a single control cable. Typical application areas include metalworking machinery, welding lines, material handling systems, and equipment in the food and beverage industry. These passive ASB-R rugged distribution boxes come with an IP67 protection rating. They are equipped with four or eight vibration-proof M12 ports and metal screw threads.

The range includes versions with one or two channels, with fixed control cable or M23 connection for field-attachable cables, and distribution boxes with or without LED function indicators. The optimized port layout ensures simple handling, even when the number of connections has been doubled by means of T-distributors. Further features of the flexible ASB-R rugged distribution boxes include a compact design, an extended operating temperature range of -40°C to +80°C, and national/international certifications that ensure they can be used globally.
