Simulator Training Will Help Operators Control Exceptional Situations and Reduce Production Losses
PHOENIX, Sept. 9, 2005 - Honeywell (NYSE:HON) has received a one million dollar contract with Borealis Polymers to supply a training simulator for its ethylene factory in Porvoo, Finland. Honeywell's UniSim(tm) simulator will train operators at the factory to take the correct action during normal and exceptional process conditions and avoid unplanned downtime. The system is scheduled for startup in October 2006. "The Porvoo plant is currently being renovated, so a number of new plant operators will be trained during the next few years," says Jari Vettenranta, Borealis project manager.
"The Honeywell simulator ensures that operators are familiar with and able to control all the process functions, from beginning to end, as well as less frequent situations. This will greatly help us avoid unexpected events and eliminate disturbances in production." Honeywell's UniSim simulator accurately emulates the functions and dynamics of production plant processes. The simulator user interface functions are identical to those of a plant process control system, with the users' simulated displays corresponding to actual run situations. In addition to training new operators, the simulator will train the existing operator personnel before the renovated plant goes on stream to prepare them for special situations and for process research and development purposes.
