February 17, 2011 - Brainboxes announces UC-049 RS232 Opto Isolation card. The UC-049 has 4 optically isolated lines on each of its 4 RS232 ports. Data lines TxD & RxD and handshake line RTS & CTS pass through an 1kV optically isolated barrier that provides extra protection to the host PC in the event high voltages being generated on the serial device side.
Large spikes or transients surges are prevented from damaging the host PC since there is no galvanic connection (no current flow) between the serial equipment and the PC. Hazards such as ground loops or other causes of high potential differences between devices will not damage the PC. These products are ideal for rugged industrial environments like garage workshops where automotive tests are being conducted as well as general repair work involving high current devices like welding equipment.
