Calex announces GX series DC/DC converters
Up to five GX units may be used in parallel to generate up to 1000 Watts of output power.

April 8, 2009 - Calex announces the GX series of DC/DC converters. The two models in the GX series offer built-in load sharing for easy circuit integration and parallel operation or power source redundancy. No external components are required to incorporate the load sharing feature. Up to five of the GX units may be used in parallel to generate up to 1000 Watts of output power. Both models in the GX series feature an input range of 16VDC to 40VDC.

The output voltages available are 15VDC and 24VDC. If alternative output voltages are required, both converters feature a very wide trim range of - 40% to +10%. Thus, the system designer can obtain any output voltage between 9VDC and 26.4VDC with the standard models. Contact the factory for information on non-standard input and output voltages.

Output noise is 1% of Vout peak to peak for both models. A built-in synchronization function allows the converters to be synchronized to a system clock whereby intermodulation effects are avoided. The result is predictable and controllable system noise. The switching frequency of the GX models is set at 255kHz. Each unit is isolated input to output at 1500VDC.

Both models feature undervoltage lockout and input reverse voltage protection. Additional protection is provided through pulse by pulse current limiting, dead short shut-down and thermal overload protection. Each GX model also offers logic on/off for power conservation as well as remote sensing to compensate for IR drops. In the off state, the GX only draws typically 40mA.

The GX is housed in an industry standard half brick package measuring 2.28" x 2.40" x 0.55". Each model is fully encapsulated for improved thermal performance as well as protection against shock and vibration.

The case operating temperature range of the GX is -40C to +100C. The construction utilizes a metal baseplate which can be used as a heatsinking surface for extended temperature use. The GX is available with both RoHS and non-RoHS construction. The GX is designed to meet UL60950. MTBF is greater than 1M hours.
