February 7, 2007 - The Convir EL series is a range of high quality, miniature infrared temperature sensors from Calex Electronics. They are designed to accurately measure the temperature of inaccessible or moving objects and materials. These sensors can measure temperatures within the range -20ºC to 500ºC (-4ºF to 932ºF) with an ultra fast response time of just 200ms and an outstanding accuracy of up to ±1ºC (±2ºF).
A choice of three different fields of view are available, 2:1, 10:1 and 30:1, to ensure that even small or remote targets can be measured.With an emissivity setting of 0.95 the EL series are suitable for measuring most non-metallic targets such as food stuffs, rubber/plastic, pharmaceuticals, paper and textiles.The standard range of EL sensors is designed for use with most modern process monitoring and control equipment and as such provides a 4 to 20mA output. This signal can be accepted by most process control units and indicators and does away with the need for expensive thermocouple compensating cable.
The current output allows the signal to be transmitted over large distances using standard copper wire without danger of interference, and the two-wire design of the EL allows it to be loop powered, so installation could not be easier.Where the EL sensors are to be retrofitted to replace existing thermocouples, simulated type K and J outputs are available in place of the mA output. These units use a 4-wire design, two for power and two to provide the signal.A further range of voltage outputs is also available to ensure the EL series are compatible with all process instrumentation. These outputs include 0-50mV, 0-100mV, 1mV/ºC, 10mV/ºC and 0-5V.
These units are again 4-wire.The housing of the EL sensors is made of stainless steel and sealed to IP65 (NEMA 4) so that it can be washed down without being damaged.
