Changes to the NFPA70E Standard 2012 Edition

April 16, 2012 - Mersen published a technical white paper on Standards and Codes: SCN4, Note 1, “Significant Changes to the NFPA 70E Standard 2012 Edition.” NFPA 70E is the standard for electrical safety in the workplace, and explains in detail how to prevent electrical hazards. In this paper, Mersen identifies and explains some of the key changes to NFPA 70E for 2012, including:

  • Arc-Rated (AR) versus Flame-Resistant (FR) requirements for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Training requirements for emergency procedures
  • Arc flash analysis for electrically safe working conditions
  • Arc flash analysis requirements for equipment labeling
  • Safety-related design requirements for arc energy reduction
