C&K introduces RS Series miniature Reed detect switch
RS Series switch has an electrical life of one million cycles. Prices start at $1.37 in OEM quantities.

November 12, 2008 - C&K Components developed a miniature surface-mount reed detect switch designed for long life and ease-of-use.

Designated the RS Series, the detect switch is a miniature reed detect component with an electrical life of one million cycles. The 5mm magnetic reed switch features a footprint of 6.5mm x 2.3mm, and sits only 2.3mm off the PC board.

The detect switch can be top or side actuated for increased flexibility. The RS Series reed detect switch is specified for a variety of applications, including industrial sensing, factory automation equipment, limit sensing, security systems, and fan and motor controllers, as well as simple detection applications such as enclosure latches. The RoHS-compliant detect switches are available with either gullwing or J-lead terminations, and can be supplied on pick-and-place compatible tape and reel packaging.Typical pricing for the RS Series reed detect switches ranges from $1.54 to $1.37 in quantities of 10,000 to 50,000 pieces.Lead times are from 6 to 8 weeks."

The RS Series switch features a magnetic reed sensor with an omnipolar magnetic orientation, allowing it to be operated with either pole of a magnet," said David Webber, director of product management for C&K Components. "Due to this versatility and the miniature size of the device, the switch is being implemented in a wide range of detection applications, and is particularly ideal for those where space is at a premium."
