September 18, 2017 – A CODESYS-compatible runtime environment (SoftPLC) has recently been announced for the PFC100 and IOT2000 devices.

CODESYS has established itself as de facto standard for IEC 61131-3 programming systems. Manufacturers of intelligent automation components from different industries rely on CODESYS as development software for their devices.

With the product range “CODESYS Control SL”, the CODESYS manufacturer offers readily customized SoftPLC systems for standard device platforms such as the Raspberry Pi in the CODESYS Store.

As of now, SoftPLC systems for the device platforms PFC 100 from WAGO and SIMATIC IOT2000 from Siemens are also available. Both systems are based on an open Linux operating system and are designed to work in industrial environments. The CODESYS SoftPLC includes protocol stacks and configurators for the most common bus systems, thus ensuring that the on-board Ethernet interfaces can be directly used as fieldbuses.

The installation of the SoftPLC turns the devices into EtherCAT Masters, EtherNet/IP Scanners or Adapters and PROFINET Controllers or Devices. In addition, the devices support the CODESYS WebVisu – which is why visualizations developed in the CODESYS Development System can be uploaded onto the devices and displayed on any HTML5 browsers. This allows for tasks such as machine or plant monitoring per tablet computer or smartphone. The integrated OPC UA Server turns the systems into Industry 4.0-compatible communication servers.
