Control Microsystems releases BR20 base radio for wireless instrumentation
BR20 has two radios: one radio connects wireless instrumentation, while the long-haul Trio K-Series radio communicates remotely with a central master radio.

October 20, 2009 – Control Microsystems announced the Accutech BR20 Base Radio, a wireless instrumentation product that offers two radios in one. The primary radio provides connectivity and configuration to a wide range of wireless instruments available through Accutech. The optional long-haul Trio K-Series radio communicates remotely with a central master radio, providing process instrumentation data from the field units to the host workstation in systems spanning considerable distance. The BR20 comes in a DIN rail-mounted metal enclosure and supports a wide range of field units with a maximum of 100 possible per base radio network.

Secure, license-free 900MHz, spread-spectrum technology is used throughout with a full suite of hardware options and configuration and diagnostic tools available to minimize maintenance costs and optimize operation. The optional integrated long-haul radio includes RS-232 and RS-485 user interface, channel-sharing, collision-avoidance and support for leading industrial communication protocols. The BR20 is configured locally via an LCD/keypad or remotely with Accutech Manager, which also acts as a user-friendly environment for wireless network diagnostics and management of the Accutech network. The product is powered by readily-available 11-30VDC and is certified Class 1, Div 2, Groups A, B, C, and D for installation in hazardous locations.

“The BR20 is functional and economical,” says Dale Symington, VP Product Strategy. “It greatly reduces panel space usage and the field-proven capability of Accutech wireless instruments eliminates the need for expensive, hard-wired sensor installations.”
