Dresser Masoneilan will provide steam pressure reducing valves, desuperheaters and associated equipment required for the project’s steam conditioning and turbine bypass systems.

January 24, 2010 – Dresser Masoneilan today announced that it has been named the steam conditioning and turbine bypass system supplier for an unconventional oil mining and extraction project in the Athabasca Oil Sands in Alberta, Canada. The project is expected to begin producing 100,000 barrels of oil per day in late 2012. It has the potential to produce up to 345,000 barrels a day with future expansions, helping to offset declines in conventional oil production and meet North America’s energy demands for many years to come. Dresser Masoneilan will provide steam pressure reducing valves, desuperheaters and associated equipment required for the project’s steam conditioning and turbine bypass systems. The company will also supply operational service and support for the life of the mines.

“Technology advancements and higher oil prices have made oil sands a viable source of oil. Our technical expertise enables us to work alongside our customers to develop custom solutions for this unique severe service application,” said James Schauer, Americas region president for the Flow Technologies segment of Dresser Inc. “For the project in the Athabasca Oil Sands, the Dresser Masoneilan team worked in partnership with long-time customers to develop a flexible system that meets near-term requirements and can be modified for future expansions.”

Dresser Masoneilan’s SteamForm conditioning stations will ensure the ongoing operation of the plant by delivering proper steam pressure and temperature control to critical systems while also providing steam turbine protection in the event of an emergency shut-down or maintenance. Dresser Masoneilan offers a complete line of steam conditioning valves for applications that require both pressure and temperature reduction in an integrated package. The SteamForm product line combines more than 125 years of Dresser Masoneilan pressure reduction expertise with the latest in desuperheating technology to provide a highly efficient and reliable steam conditioning solution.

Dresser Masoneilan is one of few control valve suppliers in the world that can comply with the full scope of products required for conventional and unconventional oil production. Dresser Masoneilan provides customers with technical expertise and support at the local level through its global network of fully equipped aftermarket centers.
