May 2, 2017 - The XC300 modular PLC from Eaton, enables machine and system builders bring modern automation concepts to life – especially when combined with the XN300 I/O system and XV300 touch panel. Thanks to its various interfaces, the controller is suitable as a universal data node for a range of applications. An integrated OPC server enables standardised data transfer in M2M communication, enabling integration into the automation architecture and creating a simple path towards Industry 4.0.

The Linux-based system is programmed using CODESYS 3 and supports many commonly-used interfaces and field bus protocols, from CANopen, easyNet and Modbus RTU through EtherCAT, Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP all the way to OPC UA/Scada. The controller allows the operation of three different Ethernet networks based on different network addresses. For example, individual networks can be set up for mobile, M2M and SCADA communication. In this way, the security and performance aspects can be optimally matched to the network. The controller also provides its own supply feeder over four I/O channels.

Integrated web servers support CODESYS 3 visualisation and device administration, with HTML5 capability for display on smartphones and tablet devices. Established programs and libraries are supported for all XC and XV devices. They can be copied onto other devices for serial production using a micro SD card or a USB stick.

Eaton applies current communications and security standards to protect equipment and systems against unauthorised access. The XC300 supports both cryptographic authentication mechanisms (TLS/IPSec) and certificate-based authorisation.

As with the XN300 I/O system, the XC300 controller clips securely onto the DIN rail. One XC300 can control up to 32 XN300 expansion modules.
