Brandy plant in central Spain seeks proven, leading technology -- adopts PlantWeb with FOUNDATION(TM) fieldbus
AUSTIN, TEXAS (August 1, 2003) -- Emerson Process Management has announced its selection by Allied Domecq to provide PlantWeb(R) digital plant architecture to automate Domecq's wine distillation plant located in Tomelloso, central Spain. Allied Domecq is Spain's leading wine and spiritsmanufacturer with sales of $5.1 billion in 2001.The Tomelloso plant distills wine that is used in the production of brandy. The PlantWeb architecture will automate two distillation towers and the plant's water-cooling towers.
Each distillation tower is capable of distilling 15 cubic meters of wine per hour.Domecq required a plant architecture that was capable of providing strong and reliable control, incorporating the latest technologies, and was easy to operate. After considering several alternatives, Domecq selected PlantWeb architecture from Emerson. Its easy-to-use DeltaV(TM) digital automation system employs open, interoperable technologies, and embeds AMS predictive maintenance software. AMS communicates with intelligent field devices through the PlantWeb field network that uses FOUNDATION fieldbus open, digital communications protocol.
Field devices include Fisher(R) valves with FIELDVUE(R) digital valve controllers, Rosemount(R) pressure and temperature transmitters, Micro Motion(R) Coriolis flowmeters, and Rosemount Analytical analyzers. The field devices perform diagnostic tests and deliver data that describes their health and that of the process, allowing the plant to operate using a predictive maintenance regime. The PlantWeb architecture is expected to improve Domecq operations quality and productivity.
AMS technology is part of the PlantWeb architecture and is a key Asset Optimization technology of Emerson, enabling improved plant availability and reliability, and increased maintenance efficiencies.About Emerson Process ManagementEmerson Process Management ( www.emersonprocess.com ), an Emerson business, is a leader in helping businesses automate their production, processing and distribution in the chemical, oil and gas, refining, pulp and paper, power, food and beverage, pharmaceutical and other industries.
