April 23, 2014 - The EtherCAT Technology Group (ETG) released a system comparison guide. “Industrial Ethernet Technologies: Overview and Comparison” gives valuable insight into today’s most important Industrial Ethernet technologies. Based on publicly accessible material and supplemented by detailed background information, it explains the technological principles of the different approaches and compares them among each other. Additionally, strategic criteria such as the distribution of the systems and their stability are displayed. All technologies covered in the document are – such as EtherCAT itself – supported by various user organizations.
The systems compared are PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, CC-Link IE, SERCOS-III, Ethernet Powerlink, Modbus/TCP, and EtherCAT.
