EVT introduces EyeFi filament inspection sensor
The sensor contains of two cameras with an Aptina sensor and an S-Mount lens. Also in the package is the EyeVision image processing software.

February 7, 2017 - EVT presents the EyeFI – the sensor for the inspection of filaments. The sensor contains of two cameras with an Aptina sensor and an S-Mount lens. The cameras are perpendicular to each other. It is therefore possible to inspect two sides of the filament, which means that the EyeFI can detect if the filament is out-of-roundness. Additionally the errors and defects can be detected.

The most frequently occurring flaws are for example point-shaped or partly flaked, or point-shaped and transverse, or also looking like a longitudinal rib, or only spots. The defects can be detected with image processing with the EyeFI sensor.

Filaments are not only fibers or yarns, they can be thermoplastic plastic, or synthetic, such as it is used for 3D prints.

The EyeFI contains board cameras with sensors from Aptina, the IoCap and an evaluation processor. The housing is about 14 x 10 x 4 cm in size. The IoCap is the image-capture-IO-board, which is designed and produced by EVT. The board has 4 in- and 4 outputs, 12 – 24 V IO voltage, as well as a GigE interface. The camera sensor is a 1/3“ CMOS sensor with the possibility of 60 frames per second.

The evaluation processor runs a Linux operating system and contains an Amlogic ARM Cortex-A53(ARMv8) 1.5 Ghz quad core CPU.

Also in the package is the EyeVision image processing software. With the help of the drag-and-drop function, the user can create an inspection program without any programming skills. The EyeVision software has prefabricated inspection commands to detect flaws on the filaments. For example a simple command to count objects would be sufficient for detecting blemishes on a wire. And with the KeyMatch command a pattern can be found.
