DALLAS - February 22, 2005 - Flowserve Corp., a global provider of fluid motion and control products and services, announces that the Flowserve PMV D3 digital valve positioner has added FOUNDATION™ Fieldbus support and gained ATEX EEX approval as an explosion-proof device. The high-performance D3 is designed for the control of linear and rotary control valves. It has applications in a variety of industries and processes where control valves are used, including oil and gas production and refining, pulp and paper, and food processing.ATEX EEX approval gives Flowserve further entrée into the European market for the D3.

The addition of FOUNDATION Fieldbus support now means that the D3 can communicate via a fourth protocol, in addition to 4-20 mA analog, HART®, and PROFIBUS® PA.With an onboard microprocessor, the Flowserve PMV D3 offers a number of "intelligent" features, including auto-calibration, digital control of valve flow characteristics, password protection, process diagnostics, alarm settings, and multi-language menus. The D3's combination of a computer-optimized pneumatic relay and piezo-electric valves provides superior control and performance with very low steady state air consumption measuring 0.01 SCFM, for a near-zero bleed rate. The D3 is quickly and easily installed.

Featuring a split-spindle design and a friction coupling for its feedback potentiometer, the D3 will mount on almost any actuator and does not need to be installed in a specific position when mounted. Flowserve PMV offers more than 130 mounting kits for the D3 to fit most actuators available in the market, making the D3 a flexible positioner option for facilities with a range of actuators and valves." The Flowserve PMV D3 digital positioner offers plant operators simplicity, ruggedness, reliability and intelligence in design," says Micah Floyd, sales engineer, Flowserve Flow Control. "Its patented air flow technology combines ultra-high air delivery and superior performance with very low air bleed for energy savings.

Now with ATEX EEX approval and FOUNDATION Fieldbus support, the D3 provides even more flexibility." The D3's standard configuration is an IP66/NEMA 4X-approved strong, die-cast aluminum housing treated with powder epoxy for protection against corrosion and mechanical damage.

It features a cover with a special design to protect the graphic display and a separate sealed area for its electrical connection terminals that protects the electronics in case of a leak in the conduit entry. The D3 is also available in four optional configurations, including intrinsically safe and explosion-proof versions for installation in hazardous areas, and a remote-mounted configuration for installations in severe service applications, such as heavy vibration, high or low temperature, corrosive environment, or difficulty of access. The fourth D3 configuration features an optional fail-in-place (fail-freeze) capability on loss of input signal (power outage). With this option, the D3 can maintain the last position held until power is restored.

All D3 versions are available with a 270-degree option for extended travel range. An optional feedback plug-in module is also available for the D3 that includes a 4-20 mA transmitter and can contain mechanical, proximity or NAMUR sensors. Installation can be done at the factory or in the field. The Flowserve PMV D3 features a simple user interface that employs a menu structure similar to cell phone menus. The positioner can be configured manually via its keypad, and depending on model, through a HART handheld device or a PROFIBUS PA or FOUNDATION Fieldbus system.
