ISA 2012 Automation Week Track: Control Performance Thursday, 27 September, 3:15-4:45 pm, Room 204B Michel Ruel BBA - Top Control Inc. Fuzzy Logic Control is not fuzzy Michel Ruel P.E. will present “Fuzzy logic control: A successful example” at ISA Automation Week. His paper presents a successful example of a multi-variable fuzzy logic controller.
Fuzzy logic control is used when an experienced operator has better control over a process than a PID or a MPC controller. Fuzzy logic emulates an experienced operator and reacts to process behavior and variable trends. When good process models cannot be identified, but a good operator can control a process or describe what to do for each situation, fuzzy logic is used. No need to model the process, no need to crunch numbers… Interview the best operators, and develop rules (what to do). In fact, a fuzzy logic controller is a model of the operator for a specific process.
