The Hirschmann Automation and Control GmbH, Neckartenzlingen, has added functions for automatic discovery of the network topology via LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) to the Industrial HiVision network management software (Operator Edition 2.0). With this protocol, defined by the IEE802.1AB standard, both network components and end devices such as programmable logic controllers or I/O components can be discovered exactly and monitored reliably. This software is particularly suitable for use in complex, redundant Ethernet networks and is available for Windows 2000/XP and Linux operating systems.
Industrial HiVision enables trouble-free monitoring of Ethernet networks by a user-friendly operating interface and a clear representation of the network topology and hierarchy. A mouseclick suffices to display the status of the devices or the whole network. Extensive IT knowledge is not necessary for this.The appropriate interfaces are provided for a configuration of the devices via Web browser or TELNET. Since the licence fees depend on the number of monitored IP addresses, Industrial HiVision can also be used cost-effectively in smaller networks.
The functionality of the software can be tested by a simulation tool based on demo applications without hardware components having to be installed.
