Process Knowledge System provides foundation for increased Shin-Etsu production
PHOENIX, May 5, 2003 - Honeywell (NYSE: HON) Industry Solutions announced today that Shin-Etsu PVC BV, the world's top producer of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), has selected Experion PKS(tm) as the automation foundation for a production expansion project at its vinyl chloride plant in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Orders for Honeywell products and services related to the project total $575,000. Shin-Etsu is based in Japan and has offices and manufacturing facilities in 14 countries. The company operates six PVC plants. The project, which will be completed in October 2003, is the addition of a fourth process or "cracking" furnace to increase production of vinyl chloride monomers, an intermediate of PVC.
Using Experion PKS, Honeywell'snext-generation business, process and asset management system, Shin-Etsu will integrate the new furnace with the Rotterdam facility's existing automation and control system, while taking advantage of Foundation*Fieldbus smart instrumentation technology." We need integration with our installed base and Honeywell's Experion PKS provides that," said Leen van der Reiden, Maintenance Engineer E&I for Shin-Etsu. "Our goals are increased productivity and reduced maintenance costs. Experion will help us achieve both objectives."
Mr. van der Reiden said Shin-Etsu also favored Honeywell's dedication to open standards and the tools and knowledge developed through the AbnormalSituation Management® Consortium, a Honeywell-led joint research anddevelopment group of 10 major companies and universities.The initial Shin-Etsu order expands on the TotalPlant® Solution System and includes the hardware and hardware-related services for an Integration Node, C200 with HPM I/O, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, Experion PKS Server, Experion PKS Stations, a Honeywell Fail Safe Controller and Field Instruments.
